Before his cult status as a writer/director, Tarantino was just an actor and film geek wanting to work in the industry. The first film he directed was My Best Friend’s Birthday (1987). He also starred in it having co-written himself one of the main roles. The film’s script is like an early draft of True Romance, and considering his character’s name is Clarence, I would guess he would have liked to play the role made famous by Christian Slater. What young actor wouldn’t…?

It cost $5,000 and took 4 years to make My Best Friend’s Birthday. He wrote it with an acting friend and used classmates, workmates and even his acting teacher in the cast. This was before digital cameras and easily accessible editing programs revolutionized independent filmmaking, when making a short film could be expensive, even when shooting on 16mm and in black and white as Tarantino did.Roblox HackBigo Live Beans HackYUGIOH DUEL LINKS HACKPokemon Duel HackRoblox HackPixel Gun 3d HackGrowtopia HackClash Royale Hackmy cafe recipes stories hackMobile Legends HackMobile Strike Hack

A few weeks ago Tarantino was in Melbourne promoting his latest (relatively cheap) $13,000,000 film: The Hateful Eight. He also visited our local Sun Theatre cinema in Yarraville, admiring a 70mm projector found in a garage and now operational. LEGEND! It’s no secret he’s also a big fan of 70’s and 80’s Australian films.

Take a look at some of his original film attached, it’s where Tarantino began – the camera work and acting is pretty rough and ready! Hopefully it’ll give you confidence to have a go at writing your own dialogue, or getting together with a friend and writing some dynamic scenes you’d like to act in and film sometime in the near future.
